On Friday April 23th at 14h CET Stepping Stone organised a third online dialogue for professionals in the music sector. After the successful launch and first dialogue in October 2020, there was a second edition with a focus on the previous issues of the pandemic. The third session gave us more insights about involving audiences together and inviting people to experience the value of music even more. We are looking forward to the next edition in the autumn of 2021.
Stepping Stone is an international collaboration platform and community aimed at empowering musicians towards sustainable international careers. The purpose of Stepping Stone is to support and stimulate these new ways of collaborating and creating that will emerge, by connecting people and offering a common ground, an inspiring community and practical stepping stones for its realisation. Different projects and methodologies can find a home on the common ground of Stepping Stone, leaving ownership and initiative entirely with the initiators.
Stepping Stone invited label manager John Weijers (NL) and artist Berenice van Leer (NL) to highlight a new initiative to connect Dutch jazz and make it more visible, and engaged with Emily Saunders (UK) on the platform ConnectsMusic. The main course: What can we learn from these initiatives, and can what can we learn from each other?
Three different breakout rooms allowed the Stepping Stone family members to talk to each other and see different perspectives on the theme. The guidelines: ‘How can we work together to involve audiences out of our reach? And how do we invite people to experience the value of music’ provided the opportunity for an open dialogue. The result was a room for plenty of ideas, new insights and meaningful connections which are shown in the harvest down below.
